This festive season, MGG supports the CO Foundation in Nigeria - December 18, 2007

This festive season, MGG supports the CO Foundation in Nigeria.

Similar to previous years, MGG will refrain from Christmas gifts to their partners and will support the CO Foundation in Kadina, Nigeria instead.

The CO Foundation (CO stands for Creative Opportunities) is founded 8 years ago by Bart and Emmy van der Grinten. Its goal is to improve the livelihood of the less fortunate people within the Nigerian society. The CO Foundation achieves this by providing organizational, practical and financial support through patient rehabilitation, healthcare, poverty reduction and education.

CO Foundation maintains several projects in the north of Nigeria. The ultimate goal of their projects is the (economic) self-efficiency of the people involved. Two examples of current projects are:

Patient Rehabilitation Project (PRP)
This project provides former leprosy (Hansen’s disease) patients with a basic income through the production of cotton products such as bedspreads, t-shirts and tablecloths. These stigmatised people with heavily disfigured hand and feet do not get a fair chance to earn a decent living. This is why CO Foundation started a small firm back in 1999 where these former Leprosy patients work and in return receive a cut of the earnings. CO Foundation’s role in this project is to support management and production and to provide marketing and sales.

  Special Sports Project
This project supports disabled people in the emirate of Zaria through the sporting activities. Approximately 40 till 60 people between the age of 12 and 30 participate in this project. These disabled people are trained to compete at the National Sport Festival. Winning a medal at this Festival enables the person to appeal for governmental support and even a job offer. The financial rewards through successful participation should raise enough funds to finance the training activities of future disabled athletes.
